10 Years Celebrated

As I'm typing this I still haven't decided on a title for this post.... Why... you ask. I'm having difficultly finding words to describe the lovely evening we spent together Friday evening.

Eric got tickets for us to go to Beef and Boards ( a dinner theater in Indy. I'd been excited to say the least, from the moment I found out. My excitement soon turned into worry as I received a call from Mom that she had the flu. Though she was still willing, BLESS HER SWEET HEART, to take the kids, she really was not up to it with 102 fever. I felt a wave of hormonal emotion come over me. (For those of you who didn't catch it in an earlier post....whenever I get all emotional, we joke "It's just the hormones." Since I've either been pregnant or nursing for (what seems like) as long as I can remember. It's one of those inside Bibby Jokes). I gained control over myself long enough to make a couple of calls to get the number for one of my favorite people, Kathryn. As soon as I heard her voice on the other end, out came the "ugly cry." All you gals know exactly what I'm talking about. So even though she already had plans for her Friday night, she was not about to turn down a very emotional, crying her eyes out mother. I had already been "hormonal" over the fact that I was going to be leaving Krista for the first time so this just broke the dam. Poor Kathryn.

I felt somewhat better knowing our kids were in the best of hands, next to Grandma's of course. I got all guss'ied up and Kathryn arrived with the biggest smile across her face. Have I mentioned how much I love that girl!

We talked most of the way down just enjoying one another's company.

Beef and Boards was so much more than I expected.... Eric shelled out the big bucks and went all out getting us box seats around the outside of the room, and our very own private table. I was thrilled beyond words, but found every chance I got to say Thank you. We got there in time to enjoy the buffet of delicious food. We wound our way through the tables down to the stage where the buffet was served. It brought back a few butterflies from my days of being on stage. I miss my Thespian days from time to time, but can still brush up on my skills with a good book of the Hungry Caterpillar or Why Don't Pirates Take Baths?. The food was great, in case you didn't catch it. Our table was perfect. We sat there looking at everyone else and checking each other out in the process. After 10 years, I'm proud to report, he's still got it!!! The musical, West Side Story, was brilliantly done. I couldn't stop thanking God for the man sitting next to me, despite all the excitement of the show.

The ride home was a quiet ride, silence describes it better. We were content just being with each other and enjoyed the pitter of the rain on the windshield rather than the music of the radio. Eric joked and had me in stitches, "I can hear myself think. I can ask myself a question and I can hear myself answer my question." I can't remember the last time my cheeks hurt from so much smiling. It was nice to leave the "Mommy Shoes" at home and step into the "Wife Shoes" for an entire evening.

Kathryn was gracious enough to listen to our rendition of the evening. And before she left she had us laughing so hard we were crying, over the details of how her evening with the kids went. I checked on the kids and said a little thank you to God for Kathryn and her friendship.

I couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. Eric is truly the love of my life and he is so good to me. How gracious God is to allow me to spend my life with him.

Awww Jean....what an amazing memory made for you and Eric! And what a great friend you have in Kathryn. I have to agree with you when you say it can be so very nice every once in a while to just wear the "wife shoes"! So glad you guys were able to enjoy such a wonderful evening!

Sounds like a perfect anniversary! Yep-it sure is nice to get to wear the 'wife shoes' for a whole night! Happy Anniversary!

This is a similar dream for me. I always tell Matt, one of the most amazing presents he could ever get me would be to take me to Broadway (or ANY production, for that matter!) I was big into theatre in highschool and REALLY want my kids to enjoy it too...we hit all the free programs we can and are going to try and hit some of the 'cheap' ones too.

Glad you had such a wonderful day!

I am so thankful that Kathryn could fill in for me on Friday evening so you could still go on your outing. It sounds like you had a great time. So sorry that I couldn't help out with the kids, but God did provide an alternative. Thanks Kathryn!
