Okay so living in the "Land of Crazy" I've been out of touch with any news, except the weather. I got on Facebook today to see everyone posting colors. I didn't get it until I saw a post from a friend, Tracy that explained it was to raise awareness for breast cancer and everyone was to post what bra they were wearing.
I have to say today, that I am seeing the world around me with new eyes....
I decided to ask myself the question:
When is enough, ENOUGH?!
It seems the line of modesty, moderation, and appropriateness has been erased and re-drawn too many times to even see a line anymore.
When did it become okay...
for women to advertise undies and bras in ONLY their undies and bras?
to advertise for condoms?
to have shows on TV of people laying in bed appearing naked together after having SEX?
to sell Pinesol with a sex appeal of a naked man mopping the floor? (Could we not have accomplished the same idea with a tight tshirt?)
to tell everyone what color of bra you are wearing?
For me, to advertise to everyone what bra you are wearing means that every man who is a friend will also read that and picture your face and get a little smirk out of what bra you are wearing. As a wife, I am cringing thinking about my husband, who is a Facebook member, reading what color bra someone else has on.
It's one thing to share this information with close girlfriends, it's another to share it with the world. Would you walk around your local grocery store in a see-through shirt for everyone to see your bra?
Am I making a big deal out of nothing....
No, I don't think so. I think we make light of too many things and this is just the straw that broke this camel's back.
I don't want my son to think that it's okay for every girl to tell him her bra color- or that's it's even okay to ask for that matter! I don't want my girls to think it's okay to tell everyone what kind of bra they are wearing.
My son turned 6 yesterday, and as I look around at advertising and Facebook and see what is deemed OKAY now.... what will it be like when he is 16?
I almost just got sick.
It raised awareness alright, but not for breast cancer...

I'm a friend of Tracy's and that is how I got to your blog. Thank you for blogging this, as I totally agree with you. God bless you sister.
Thanks so much Christy! I really appreciate you taking the time to visit my blog. I have great respect for Tracy and it's a pleasure to meet you.
Mrs. Bibby,
This was such a well written post. Do you mind if I link it on my Facebook?
Thanks for taking a stand. It does my heart good to see a woman of your generation say enough is enough. Our society has been de-sensitized through the types of commercials you have mentioned. No, it is not appropriate for other men to know or imagine the color or type of bra you are wearing. It does nothing to raise breast cancer awareness, but could, in fact, cause someone to stumble. When I was a child, I remember getting embarrassed seeing a kotex commercial with my dad in the room. The types of commercials shown today would have never been tolerated in the progressive 60's. Thank you, Jean Marie.
Very Well Put! I thought I was the only one steaming on that one!
I have also made a commitment to not have any male "friends" that are not my family. Most men are understanding...some just don't get it...and some woman think I'm nuts too. Oh well, I'm protecting this home! I think I found Gerneration Cedar through you!??!? Did you see the post about the Josh Harris and the bean bag!?!? Very Good!
We don't even take our boys out shopping...too much porn hanging around! I love living with the Amish and Mennonite...their stores are the best :-)
I agree with you, Jean. The big question is what to do about it. It's easy for me now to keep my kids away from TV, computers, etc, when they're little, but being "in the world and not of the world" is a very difficult thing to teach as they grow up.
I just glanced at your sidebar ... it looks like someone had a birthday yesterday. Happy Birthday, Luke!
Thanks for the post Jean. I am glad I am not the only one that didn't participate in the Facebook bra color. Honestly, when living in Las Vegas, NV - Desensitization wasn't even possible if you left your house. We are so glad to be out of "Sin City". But as someone said, I can keep my kids away from commercials and TV in my house, yet if we go out to eat Pizza we are bombarded by inappropriate commercials. It really is too much these days and it is only get worse, sigh.
Anyways, thanks again for the post. It is nice to be reminded that you are not to be the only one that thinks this way.
Can't believe Luke turned 6 - that means Cali will turn 6 this year too - cry, cry. I am sitting at 38 weeks now and just waiting around for our next miracle to come.
Jami
The notice that I got said to post it to only the girls on your friends list and to only say what color and nothing else. Of course that just confused everyone and it ended up quite the mess.
That being said, I agree and did not participate. I do not want to be a hinderence to my brothers in Christ.
I love reading about your growing family, we also hope to adopt, someday.
Emily
Amen.

Food for thought: The difference between bra and underwear and a bikini?

I'm sad to see that you posted anonymous because it leads me to believe one of two things:
1. You aren't confident in your challenge.
2. You really DON'T know who I am.
For if you really knew me and understood the person I am you would know that I am TEACHABLE.
You did make me think.
When I go shopping to get a swimsuit, we get a sitter and my husband is the one who chooses what I wear. It's quite a sight to see a big burly man with 15 different suits in his hand. I pick out my choices and he picks out his- then HE is the one who decides which swim suit to buy. He picked out my swim suit for this year and I wore it proudly when we were together.
I did learn something this summer. I was out with the kids on our one and only alone summer and I was not comfortable during this outing when he was not with me.
This year WE will again go out and I will chose a swimsuit that I am comfortable wearing when he is not with me.
Maybe next you'll have enough self confidence to post your name. And I challenge you to take the time to read my blog and past archives to learn more about me.
