Proverbs 24:3-4

By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

Nothing says 'I love you' like a ..... DYSON????

How silly of me! I almost forgot to post my Valentine's gift from Eric!

I can't believe I'm going to say this... I LOVE MY VACUUM!
Mr. UPS delivered the big yellow and black box with DYSON written all over it. Believe me, I was skeptical.
After using for several time now I can honestly say:
It lives up to all the hype and is worth every penny. You know you don't realize how dirty your floor really is until you have a good vacuum. The stuff that this picks up is AMAZING! It really does work like the commercials say. It does NOT lose suction. The Dyson is so easy to push that I can actually vacuum with my left arm while balancing Krista on my right! I even carried it down the hall with one hand and Krista! We had a 2 year old Bissell and I thought it did a good job, despite some minor querks: The foot lever broke a couple of weeks ago. It won't lock into the upright position. I had to keep washing out the filter.

We had a Kirby salesman come to the door and prove to me that the Bissell was not doing such a good job.

The Kirby blew away the Bissell.
The Dyson blew away the Kirby.

The Dyson is half the price and half the weight. Not to mention, it picked up stuff the Kirby left behind. I wish I would have taken pictures of the stuff it picked up after vacuuming the same spot as the Kirby--- and that was AFTER vacuuming and shampooing with the Kirby. Really and truly this is a wonderful product. I vacuum twice a week and we have put vacuums to the test. Kenmore, Bissell, Kirby don't have anything on the DYSON!

My hubby knows just what I need!
Nothing says 'I love you' like a DYSON!!!!!!!

This week's project

We've been bird-watching this past week and thought it would be fun to put some seed out for our winter visitors. I pulled a package of old buns out of the fridge and we spread them with peanut butter then rolled them in birdseed. (Thanks Rebecca for the idea!)

I originally thought the buns would be stiff enough to tie fishing line around and hang, but that didn't work. Luke had the idea to set the seed on the branches, but that didn't work.
So we ended up just putting the seed in the window box just outside Luke's bedroom.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder...

Eric returned from his training trip in Illinois last night. Praise the Lord! :-)
He left on Tuesday and I think I gained a few extra gray hairs being a single mom of 3. :-)

Eric works at Caterpillar as an Application Engineer for Electric Power and Electric Systems. When I asked him the "simple" version of what he does he described it like this: "I quote generators." :-)
Upon asking for further explanation I found that some of the generators run mining towns. HUGE generators. Below are some pictures of the C175 Engine that run the generators.

Doesn't look so big, does it????

Now that puts things into perspective...

Humility and the wondrous thing it is

On February 17, Eric was ordained and installed as a deacon in our church. I have been avoiding posting this because I have not had the time to sit down and think about what I wanted to say.

I am so very proud of Eric. Although, I don't know that "proud" is the correct word.
I am so very humbled by my husband. God chose me to stand next to Eric, united by His perfect plan. There are days that I feel very unworthy of this position. Eric is not perfect and I don't pretend he is, but Eric is a man of God. There is nothing more beautiful than that and I am drawn to him in a way that I cannot describe. Even as I type this post, I found myself sitting just looking at these pictures of my husband, at a loss for words.

God has called Eric and I rejoice as Eric takes his place as a deacon in His church to serve our Father and do His will.

I am excited to see the work that God has planned for both Eric and Bart as they begin their journey as deacons for Immanuel.

Our Blessings

They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing springs.
Isaiah 44:4

Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace.
Psalm 144:11-13

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.
Psalm 127:3

A little of this and that...

Happy Valentine's Day from Grandma & Grandpa!
THANK YOU, Grandma & Grandpa,
WE LOVE YOU!

Pigs flew yesterday!
I expected there to be a big story on it on the news, but the local news must have missed them flying over West Lafayette. Eric made some of the BEST chilli I have ever had. Believe it or not, I ate an entire bowl full of it without fritos or cornbread.
As you can see there was nothing left to take a picture of.

Luke put this 25 piece puzzle together all by himself without any help from Mommy.
In December, when he was tested for preschool, he had trouble putting a 5 piece puzzle together. I'm so very proud of him!

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Pecans

I've been trying to get in the habit of doing one special activity with each child during the week. Luke's activity, after Kayla went to bed, was to learn to crack pecans with Mommy.
Sometimes the pecans didn't come out all nice and whole, but he still had fun. I'm glad I chose the carpet since it was such an easy thing to vacuum it up. However, I'm starting to feel my age, (ha) my back wasn't very happy the next morning.

YUMMY!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 large egg white
  • 3-5 tablespoons Triple Sec Orange Flavored Liqueur other strongly flavored liqueur
  • 4 cups pecan halves

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
    2. Prepare a large cookie sheet by lining it with foil and spraying with no-stick spray.
    3. Combine the sugar, salt and cinnamon in a bowl, set aside. Combine the egg white and the liqueur in a large bowl, stir well with a whisk. Add the pecans, and stir well. Add sugar to bowl, and stir well to coat.
    4. Spread onto cookie sheet in a single layer.
    5. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until pecans are lightly toasted and browned, stirring every 10 minutes. It will look like the coating is coming off (it's not). Stir from the outside in to keep pecans on the edges from burning, and watch closely since sugar burns easily.
    6. Remove from oven, transfer immediately to wax paper to cool. Pecans keep for two weeks in an airtight container.
    7. Makes 4 cups.

  • *This recipe was really good, but I'm currently trying to find a spicy recipe for Hubby.*

    New Blog

For some time I have wanted to have a separate posting for what God has revealed to me through one thing or another. So today I started it. There is a link to it on the sidebar under QUIET TIMES, As He Reveals.

It's a work in progress, as I now hear little Krista screaming for her Mommy......oh yeah, that's me! :-)

    Fun, Food, Cards and Friends

I hosted my first Stampin' Up Party on Saturday.

Oh what fun it was! Mom invited me to a Stamp Camp back in September of last year and I had a blast. So of my favorite gals showed up (including Miss Kathryn who ended up leaving our house after midnight, going to work at 7am and still found the energy to come) and we made a Valentine's card and gift holder. I made chocolate dipped strawberries and small cheese cakes (which didn't turn out very well and I can correct my mistakes for next time). Then I bought pretzels, chocolate covered pretzels and roll-o's. Despite my cheese cake mess, the snacks turned out well. Beth, who was our demonstrator, was such a sweetheart and did a good job- as always. I can't wait to host a Stamp Camp!

Eric also did an awesome job of babysitting the kids. I didn't hear a peep out of them from the back room. I wish I could have captured some of the moments I peeked my head in. Eric built a little tent for Luke to sleep in and had a girl tucked under each arm snuggled up in bed. I'm sorry Grandma was still sick and they had to stay here, but I think Daddy did just fine.

    10 Years Celebrated

As I'm typing this I still haven't decided on a title for this post.... Why... you ask. I'm having difficultly finding words to describe the lovely evening we spent together Friday evening.

Eric got tickets for us to go to Beef and Boards (www.beefandboards.com) a dinner theater in Indy. I'd been excited to say the least, from the moment I found out. My excitement soon turned into worry as I received a call from Mom that she had the flu. Though she was still willing, BLESS HER SWEET HEART, to take the kids, she really was not up to it with 102 fever. I felt a wave of hormonal emotion come over me. (For those of you who didn't catch it in an earlier post....whenever I get all emotional, we joke "It's just the hormones." Since I've either been pregnant or nursing for (what seems like) as long as I can remember. It's one of those inside Bibby Jokes). I gained control over myself long enough to make a couple of calls to get the number for one of my favorite people, Kathryn. As soon as I heard her voice on the other end, out came the "ugly cry." All you gals know exactly what I'm talking about. So even though she already had plans for her Friday night, she was not about to turn down a very emotional, crying her eyes out mother. I had already been "hormonal" over the fact that I was going to be leaving Krista for the first time so this just broke the dam. Poor Kathryn.

I felt somewhat better knowing our kids were in the best of hands, next to Grandma's of course. I got all guss'ied up and Kathryn arrived with the biggest smile across her face. Have I mentioned how much I love that girl!

We talked most of the way down just enjoying one another's company.

Beef and Boards was so much more than I expected.... Eric shelled out the big bucks and went all out getting us box seats around the outside of the room, and our very own private table. I was thrilled beyond words, but found every chance I got to say Thank you. We got there in time to enjoy the buffet of delicious food. We wound our way through the tables down to the stage where the buffet was served. It brought back a few butterflies from my days of being on stage. I miss my Thespian days from time to time, but can still brush up on my skills with a good book of the Hungry Caterpillar or Why Don't Pirates Take Baths?. The food was great, in case you didn't catch it. Our table was perfect. We sat there looking at everyone else and checking each other out in the process. After 10 years, I'm proud to report, he's still got it!!! The musical, West Side Story, was brilliantly done. I couldn't stop thanking God for the man sitting next to me, despite all the excitement of the show.

The ride home was a quiet ride, silence describes it better. We were content just being with each other and enjoyed the pitter of the rain on the windshield rather than the music of the radio. Eric joked and had me in stitches, "I can hear myself think. I can ask myself a question and I can hear myself answer my question." I can't remember the last time my cheeks hurt from so much smiling. It was nice to leave the "Mommy Shoes" at home and step into the "Wife Shoes" for an entire evening.

Kathryn was gracious enough to listen to our rendition of the evening. And before she left she had us laughing so hard we were crying, over the details of how her evening with the kids went. I checked on the kids and said a little thank you to God for Kathryn and her friendship.

I couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. Eric is truly the love of my life and he is so good to me. How gracious God is to allow me to spend my life with him.

    Our Story, God's Providence

    THE SCENE....

And the Lord said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper..."
God brought us together on July 19, 1997 on the Comal River in New Braunfels, Texas. Eric was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He had just finished basic training and was on an outing with the chapel he was attending. God brought many rainy days leading up to that hot July day, thus flooding the Guadalupe River where Eric's group was originally scheduled to go tubing down. They had been detoured to the Comal River where my family and I frequently floated down, again God's providence. There was a record number of thousands of people on the river that day.

    LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT...
As I was floating with a girlfriend of mine we ventured away from my family, since there is only one way the river flows, it's impossible to get "lost". It was half way down the river when one of guys in Eric's group started talking to my friend. Just a few words into the conversation I was unimpressed and set my eyes upon another group of guys jumping off of a bank.

It's amazing how clear I remember the first time I laid eyes on Eric. In watching this other group of guys, I was not paying attention to one particular guy who jumped in and soaked me. (For those of you who don't know about rivers, especially the Comal, it's a cool 65 degrees). I was not happy and can remember thinking "what a jerk" as I wiped water from my face. I turned to see the biggest green eyes (hazel is his color, but that day they were green), coming my way. I can still remember being fascinated by how the water beaded up on his eyelashes. I boldly "scoped him out." He had the darkest shade of brown hair and the biggest freckles covering the bridge of his nose. I can still remember knowing instantly he was NOT local, since his feet where bare. (Again, for those of you non-tubing people, the ground can get pretty hot in Texas when you have to walk to get to the river, get your tube, and get out of the river to wait for your shuttle. Plus there's an abundance of glass on the banks. Locals wear shoes).
As we floated down the rest of river I flirted and smiled like I'd never done before. There was something different about this guy. As we neared the end, he asked to meet my family. "This guy is NUTS and he has no idea what he's getting into." I introduced him and just as I was finished, he asked for my phone number...in front of my family. All eyes on me, waited for my answer.... "ok" .... no pen (remember we're on the river)... he'll never memorize it. Only God could match me up with an Engineer that day. Numbers were his specialty, or rather, God's providence.

It's amazing how one look can change your whole life.

    GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER....
Eric played it cool and waited a day to call, almost two if I remember correct. Since he wasn't allowed of base until the weekend, we spent every day until then talking on the phone. I asked him every question I could think of. LITERALLY, every single thing that popped into my head, I asked. Surprisingly he answered..... all of them.
Even that didn't scare him off and he asked me out.

"Something was different". This is how I described it to all my girlfriends as I shared the recount of how we met and our conversations. They made fun of me, of course. There was one friend who KNEW I was serious about this guy. My dearest friend, Tabitha, listened to every word and still asked for more.

    A NIGHT TO REMEMBER....

Here's a picture from our first date. It is astonishing that we have this picture!
Our first date was on July 26, 1997. He took me to one of my favorite spots, The Riverwalk in San Antonio. At the end of the night, I asked h im on our second date.....for the next day....to attend my church. (Yeah, I was bold back then). The conversation was somewhat awkward as I muddled my way through the question, "How should I introduce you?" And with his answer, "Your boyfriend," we became exclusive.

    OUR MOTTO....
    "Whatever happens, happens"

Throughout our dating relationship, God graciously gave us challenges to help unite us and prepare us for marriage. Just weeks after meetin g Eric I went to Europe for two weeks to play volleyball on a league representing Texas. We wrote each other everyday.
Then Eric was sent to Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, Texas. This was a three to four hour drive my house. Eric drove it every weekend to see me......

Finally, Eric wanted to introduce me to his parents. The Bibby's flew us to Indiana for Christmas in December of 1997. Mom and Dad still laugh about the moment I stepped off the plane, hiding behind Eric..... boy how times have changed. I'll never forget that day. When the question was posed, "How should I address you?" Their answer was immediate, "Mom & Dad."

    ONE KNEE...
    .

It was during our visit to The Bibby's that we were "allowed" :-) to have a date just the two of us. Eric took me to a local resteraunt where his friend worked. Ruby Tuesday's was somewhat busy that Christmas Eve Night. When I look back, kn owing Eric was going to propose, I have a good laugh every time I think about it. Eric kept leaving the table and he ate so fast that I felt much like the turtle trying to catch the hare. When we stood to leave he JUMPED out of his side of the booth and yelled "Can I have your attention please" and proceeded to get down on one knee. I wonder if he remembers what he said.....

This was one of the most memorable times in my life where I had that fairy tale feeling of pure joy. By the grace of God, I've been able to experience that same feeling when the doctor placed each of my three children i nto my arms for the first time.

Just as a side note: I later found the receipt when we insured my ring, dated just two months after he met me.

    HAPPILY EVER AFTER.....

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, eve as Christ is the head of the church: and He is the savior of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be subject to their own husband in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also love the church and gave Himself for it: That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself, a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish. So out men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loves his wife, loves himself. For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord loves the church. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and the tow shall become ONE flesh.

We were married 10 years ago today, February 7. God has been merciful and patient with us during these past 10 years, and I thank Him daily for His divine and perfect way.
